California State Lead Supervisor Practice Exam

The correct standard for dust lead hazard screening on interior windowsills is 250 micrograms per square foot (ug/ft²). This threshold is set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) under the Lead Safe Housing Rule. The 250 ug/ft² level is significant because it indicates that lead dust levels above this threshold are considered hazardous, prompting further action to reduce lead exposure risks. This standard is crucial for protecting public health, especially for children who are more vulnerable to the toxic effects of lead.

The other options represent lower thresholds which do not categorize the same level of risk associated with lead dust on interior windowsills. Setting the standard at 250 ug/ft² strikes an essential balance between identifying potential hazards and implementing necessary interventions to safeguard health, particularly in homes with young children.
